As part of our initiative, we invite people to come discuss field theory with us or present a work in progress relating to field theory. Our motto here is “work the field, not the person”. This means that we encourage blunt and constructive feedback aimed at advancing our collective interest, a better understanding of social life, instead of frivolous personal disputes or flattery related to gains in unrelated fields.

Organized sessions will occur once a month on specific themes relating to field theory (eg. field autonomy, field emergence, field and cognition, symbolic resources and capitals, etc.).

Although the structure will be flexible, it will generally follow this outline:

• 10 minute introduction to the themes and proposed questions followed by open discussion of the readings and themes for the rest of a ~2-hour session, depending if there are original papers to present.
• (AND/OR) 10 minutes presentation of an original paper - paper will be shared beforehand with participants - followed by discussion of that paper.
